Lincoln Elementary School is part of the Oakland Unified School District. It is located in Oakland Chinatown, in walking distance of Lake Merritt. Most of the students speak a foreign language at home, including Cantonese, Mandarin, and Mongolian.[1] The elementary school offers grades kindegarten through fifth grade.
In January 2006, the school received the Distinguished Schools award for its success in closing the "achievement gap" between rich and poor students. The award is part of the No Child Left Behind Act.[1]
Lincoln's API score in 2009 was 906 points out of a 1000 possible, which is significantly above the statewide median. Students scored well in both Math and English.
Lincoln feeds into Westlake Middle School, Oakland Technical High School. Some students from Oakland move on to American Indian Public Charter School II.
